Origin

The Rabari are a pastoral community of Kutch, Gujarat, whose women have embroidered for over 400 years — first as dowry, now as art. Each motif carries meaning: protection, abundance, the migration of cattle through the Rann. This piece was stitched in the village of Sumrasar, by hands that learned the craft as children.

Process

Each silk shell is hand-cut to pattern. The mirrors are set first, then framed in Bakhiya — a double-running stitch unique to Rabari women. 92 hours, by a single artisan, in her home. The thread is cotton, the stitches are counted, and no two pieces ever match.

Care

Spot clean only, with a soft dry cloth. Never machine wash, soak, or dry clean. Store wrapped in muslin, away from direct sun. Silk softens with handling — this piece is built to age, not to look new forever.
